Inceptorship
What
is it?
The
Royal College of Psychiatrists aims to advance the science and
practice of psychiatry, to promote study and research, and to
further public education about psychiatry. Most trainees in psychiatry
are not yet Members of the College, and we are very keen to encourage
future Members to be actively involved in College activities.
The best way of achieving this is for trainees to enrol as an
Inceptor.
Who is it for?
Inceptorship
is open to qualified medical practitioners who intend to train
for the MRCPsych (Membership) Examination and it offers excellent
benefits:
What's in it for you?
You
will receive:
- An
annual programme detailing forthcoming College meetings for which
you will be eligible for substantially reduced rates
-
A
detailed programme of scientific meetings
-
The
British Journal of Psychiatry each month (normal price is £130
per annum)
-
The
Psychiatric Bulletin each month (normal price is £40 per annum).
The Bulletin is packed with College news and views, research papers,
interviews with prominent psychiatrists and letters
-
A
copy of the Inceptors Handbook which includes advice on careers
in psychiatry, details about the Examinations, College structures
and committee information
You
will be entitled to:
- Access
the College’s Information Service, which includes the
full use of course stock of psychiatric texts and journals for
reference purposes as well as on-line electronic journals
-
Be
affiliated to two Specialist Faculties/Sections (in a non-voting
capacity)
- Be
affiliated to one Division
Collegiate
Trainees Committee (CTC)
As an Inceptor you will
be eligible for election to the Collegiate Trainees Committee
(CTC). This Special Committee is made up of locally elected psychiatric
trainee representatives from all areas of the UK and Ireland.
It has frequently influenced crucial College policy and is important
in ensuring that the concerns of trainees are always aired. Because
of the CTC, trainees have been involved in:
- Participating
in approval visits to training schemes
-
Reviewing
the form of the MRCPsych Examinations
-
Surveying
the problems of overseas trainees
-
Contributing
to the recommendations contained in the College’s Educational
Strategy
- Examining
the role of College Tutors and Educational Supervisors
- Contributing
to the development of a video and training pack on safety for
psychiatric trainees
