ERHA and MWHB confirm
that funding will be allocated to Mental Health Services
In February this year the Irish College of Psychiatrists wrote
to Chief Executives of all Regional Health Authorities stressing
the need to have all funding received for mental health purposes
spent on these services. They also asked that funds form related
asset disposal also be allocated to mental health.
The Irish College has recently received confirmation –
from the Eastern Region Health Authority and Mid Western Health
Board indicating that they are fully compliant on both counts
– both in terms of annual allocation and asset disposal.
ERHA confirmed that, “All funding it has received for mental
health purposes has been allocated by it to the mental health
services” and went on to say, “the planned strategy
of disposal will ensure that capital funds going into the mental
health services exceeds funds been derived from the disposal of
assets.”
MWHB confirmed that, “no funds from Mental Health services
are re-allocated to other areas within the service …. And
that any asset related to Mental Health Services that results
in a realization of its value, will revert to Mental Health services
for priority projects”
Dr. Kate Ganter, Chairperson of the Irish College of Psychiatrists
said today, “We welcome this positive commitment from both
ERHA and MWHB in relation to funding, which is now a major issue
for all our services. We look forward to receiving a similar confirmation
from the other regional Health Boards.”
