Non EU Doctors supported
by Irish College of Psychiatrists
The Irish College of Psychiatrists
is concerned about some misleading media comment in regard to
the criteria which allows non EU doctors work in psychiatry in
Ireland. The Irish College is not in any way responsible for the
delay in clarifying this issue – in fact we support the
non-EU doctors in this matter.
Recently our Chairperson, Dr Kate Ganter, wrote
to Minister Micheal Martin - as follows:
"I write again as a matter of urgency
and ask that you clarify the issue of working criteria for non-EU
Doctors – so that they can participate in training in psychiatry
in Ireland.
The Irish College of Psychiatrists value the input
of Non-EU doctors in Irish Psychiatry – and we are firmly
of the view that a solution to the present impasse can be expediently
found with your intervention.
At present the issue is requiring attention by both
the Medical Council and the IPTC, however your intervention is first
required – so that they can finalise a workable solution.
The Irish College of Psychiatrists hold the view
that "acceptable certification of satisfactory performance
over a specified time" should be deemed acceptable to the Medical
Council - if you support this view".
We trust this clarifies our position on this important
matter.
